I love my job and feel very privileged to work with children and families helping them to achieve therapy goals and often boosting children's self-esteem in the process.
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2003 at the University of Cape Town (B.Sc Speech-Language Pathology). While working as a therapist in South Africa I completed my Masters degree part-time in 2006, also through the University of Cape Town (M.Sc Speech-Language Pathology). I have been living and working in the UK since 2006 and have worked in a range of different settings including the NHS and private education settings. I have worked in nurseries, mainstream schools, special schools, clients’ homes, clinics and hospitals.
I am a member of the following professional bodies:
- Health and Care Professions Council
- Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy
- Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice
My Masters research has been published in the South African Journal of Education:
O’Connor, J. & Geiger, M. (2009) Challenges facing primary school educators of English Second (or Other) Language learners in the Western Cape. South African Journal of Education, 29(2).
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, preferably outdoors.
